APPLE CRISP
Ingredients
6 T. All Purpose Flour
¼ C. Packed Light Brown Sugar
¼ C. Sugar
¼ t. Cinnamon
¼ t. Nutmeg
¼ t. Salt
5 T. Butter, cut into ½” pieces and softened
¾ C. finely chopped Walnuts or Pecans
Ingredients for filling
3 lb. Apples (6 to 8), peeled. Cored, and cut into 1” chunks or thick slices
¼ C. Sugar
1 ½ T. fresh Lemon Juice
½ t. grated Lemon Zest
Procedure for topping
1. Mix together the Flour, Brown Sugar, Granulated Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, & Salt.
2. Add the Butter, and toss together to coat the better well with the dry ingredients.
3. With a fork or your fingertips, work the mixture together until it looks like crumbly wet sand. Stir in the nuts.
4. Refrigerate until ready to use.
Procedure for filling
1. Mix together the Apples, Sugar, Lemon Juice, & Lemon Zest.
2. Place the Apple mixture into an 8” square pan, or other 2 qt. Capacity pan or baking dish.
3. Sprinkle the prepared topping evenly over the top.
Bake until the fruit is bubbling, and the topping is a deep golden brown, 30 -40 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes before eating.
